Fr. 2. 1861 $5 Demand Note. PMG Extremely Fine 40. Philadelphia. The design is seen with the highly detailed vignette of the Thomas Crawfords statue of Freedom which in 1861 was not ready for its eventual placement on top of the United States Capitol dome, where today in 2021 it remains a famous icon. Engraved act of July 17, 1861 date seen above portrait vignette of Alexander Hamilton at right and seen with "On Demand" at center on protector with guilloches flanking. The penned signatures remain legible along with great red color of the "5935" serial number at upper right center. The important verso design gives proper light to the term "green back," with intricate detail seen throughout the repeated "5" pattern with perspectively done "FIVE" at center. An important opportunity to acquire a five dollar Demand Note with a magnitude of appeal that is truly rare for the type. From the Silver Springs Collection.
