1939 Jefferson Nickel. Reverse of 1940. MS-68 FS (PCGS). This breathtaking Ultra Gem is beautifully toned in vivid multicolored iridescence. The toning is most intense when the coin is viewed with the aid of direct lighting, at which angles one is treated to a bold array of pale lilac, powder blue, orange-apricot and reddish-gold. The surfaces are expectably close to pristine for the assigned grade with a smooth, satiny texture and razor sharp striking detail. This is by far the more readily obtainable reverse hub type of the 1939 Jefferson nickel, but with the quality and eye appeal offered here the word "rarity" comes readily to the fore. An outstanding coin destined for inclusion in another top flight collection on the PCGS Set Registry. From the George "Buddy" Byers Buckeye Collection. Earlier ex Heritages Atlanta ANA National Money Show Auction of February-March 2014, lot 3779.
