Obverse: Bust left; Reverse: Muse standing right, with back facing, inscribing the Ten Commandments on shield affixed to oak tree; Moorish-style synagogue in background. <em>Edge</em>: [cornucopia] BRONZE. Rich brown surfaces, with lighter highlights and a slightly matte nature. A <strong>SCARCE </strong>and interesting judaica-related issue. Compare to a similar example in Coin Galleries (9 December 2009), lot 1202 (which realized a hammer of $350 [plus buyers fee]).<p><em>A Paris-based organization founded in 1860, the Alliance Israelite Universelle is a worldwide philanthropic group created by French statesman Adolphe Cremieux with the goal of ensuring Jewish human rights around the world. Narcisse Leven was a secretary to Cremieux, and he became involved with the organization as well, serving as its secretary (1863-1883), vice-president (1883-1898), and finally president (1898-1915, his death).</em>
