CHINA. China - Peru. Colonists Centennial of Peruvian Independence Silver Medal, 1921. Lima Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details Gold Shield. L&M-997. Struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Peruvian Independence from Colonial Spain. This charming medal was produced for and issued by Chinese immigrants in Peru. Obverse: Conjoined arms of China and Peru, leaves above and below; Reverse: Nine line inscription. It is interesting to note that the Chinese coat-of-arms overlaps the Peruvian coat-of-arms, even though the medal was struck at the Lima by Peruvians in observance of the Peruvian centennial. Though exhibiting some light cleaning, this specimen nevertheless has begun to re-tone quite handsomely.
