四枚银币制作的爱的象征 Love Token Chatelaine made from 4 Silver coins.
Total weight 85.4 grams. To a large curved silver crown with a belt hook and working pinback mount are attached these four coins in descending order of size: an 1820 French 5 Francs BEC within a scalloped border on its obverse, an 1877 Liberty Seated Half Dollar engraved DIJ inside a narrow border on its reverse, an 1878 Liberty Seated Quarter engraved CEJ inside a fine scalloped border on its reverse, and finally an 1877 Liberty Seated Dime engraved HHB inside a shallow border on its reverse. Hanging below the last coin is a silver perfume or scent bottle with the intertwined letters BEC engraved on one side and pictorial flowers on the other. A chatelaine is a decorative belt hook or clasp worn at the waist with a series of chains suspended from it. Each chain is mounted with useful household appendages such as scissors, thimbles, watches, keys, vinaigrette, and household seals. Ancient Roman women wore chatelaines with ear scoops, nail cleaners, and tweezers. The consignor reports that this spectacular example is the only one he had the chance to purchase in over 30+ years of collecting. There are many examples made of silver items, but very few made with actual coins. This item is sure to draw multiple bidders to a once in a generation opportunity to purchase a rare form of engraved coin. From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.
