Fr. 2231-B. 1934 $10,000 Federal Reserve Note. New York. PCGS Currency Gem New 65.One of the most well known stories in all of American currency collecting is that of the 100 Series of 1934 $10,000 Federal Reserve Notes that for nearly 50 years were housed inside of a golden horseshoe display at Binions Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. The $1,000,000 display at Binions was a Las Vegas stable attracting tens of thousands of visitors a year who would flock to have their picture taken next to more cash than most people would ever see in their lives. All 100 of the Binion notes are from the New York Federal Reserve District. The prominent face design of these notes depicts the portrait of Salmon P. Chase, the Secretary of the Treasury during the Civil War. Arched "10,000," counters, upper left and right with "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," between. Laurel leaves seen at left and right frame and also flanking the portrait. A simple year powerful back styling shows with four "10,000," counters at the corners and large stylized "10,000," center with "THE UNTIED STATES OF AMERICA, TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS."This example is exceptionally well framed by ample margins. The face and back impressions are each nicely centered and sharply inked. The paper is bright and free of any signs of circulation or handling. This is among the finest of the Binion notes available to collectors and a note with a remarkable story and broad appeal.
