Fort Dodge, Iowa. National Base Ball League. 1889 Advertising Note. Very Fine.A very rare baseball themed advertising from Fort Dodge, Iowa. The Plymouth Clothing House was located on Market Street and claims to have the "Lowest Prices." It bears the portraits of the 1889 National Base Ball League Chicago team, along with the ad for this clothing retailer. The lower right corner has been replaced and redrawn. There are a couple of repaired edge tears. The portrait on the face of this advertising note is that of A.G. Spalding, co-founder of Spalding Sporting Goods and President of the Chicago White Stockings (the modern day Chicago Cubs). A former pitcher, he was also involved in organizing the National League and even wrote the first official rules for baseball. The team players on the back are from the Chicago White Stockings. The back states the Plymouth Clothing House is "The Largest Merchant Tailoring and Clothing Establishment in North-western Iowa." A great note that routinely sells for four-figure prices.
