NC-155e. North Carolina. April 2, 1776. $1/4. PCGS Currency Fine 12 Apparent. Edge Splits and Tears; Tape Repairs on Back; Pinholes.No. 2606. Ex: Eric P. Newman collection where it first realized $1,175 in January 2017. The Newman cataloger described it as follows: "This is a second $1/4 denomination. The circular interlocking (or intertwined) monogram is in white on a dark background. The arrangement of the letters suggests the boldly printed monogram is "NSCN." The first "N" is reversed, the "S" is dominant in the center, the "C" is next, and finally, a forward "N" is at the right. Noted with "Edge Splits and Tears; Tape Repairs on Back; Pinholes." The sharp printing is attractive, and the back repairs from long ago do not affect the face appeal. This is, overall, a pleasing note and another type found only in advanced collections." The fractional denomination examples from this intriguing April 1776 issue are all scarce to rare, and to be highly coveted by collectors looking to accomplish the Herculean task of obtaining all fifty-six varieties.
