MS-68 (PCGS).The obverse of this incredible coin exhibits vivid peripheral toning in crimson red, steel-blue and sunset-orange that gives way to pale pastel iridescence in the center. Delicate champagne-gold tinting dominates on the reverse, although we do note blushes of powder blue and reddish-orange at the lower border. Intense mint frost is seen on both sides and the surfaces border on pristine. A semi-key date Washington quarter of its era, the 1940-S has a mintage of just 8,244,000 coins. At the upper reaches of Superb gem preservation, as here, this issue is an extraordinary condition rarity.PCGS# 5813.
