ITALY. Bruttium. Hipponion(?). AR Stater (8.53 gms), ca. 350-294 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5.cf. HGC-4, 1397; CNG-50, lot 451. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Pegasos flying left. This anepigraphic piece, which also lacks any determining symbols, has been attributed to Hipponion, though the actual city isnt entirely known. Nevertheless, a RARE type, and unusual in that the Pegasos side is the reverse rather than the obverse.
