SYRIA. Seleukid Kingdom. Antiochos II Theos, 261-246 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.12 gms), Laodikeia Mint. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. SC-576.4b var. (dolphin on rev.); HGC-9, 235. In the name of Seleukos I. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; monogram in left field; below throne, monogram below strut. Attractively toned and well centered, this fairly bold piece seems to lack the dolphin that appears on the entirety of the Alexandrine-style coins from the mint, but the remaining marks and style would seem to place it there.
