BOLIVIA. 8 Escudos, 1851-PTS MF. Potosi Mint. NGC AU-55. KM-110; Onza-1595 ("rarisima"). One-year type. An outstanding, wonderfully pedigreed example of this VERY RARE issue, with smooth fields that display pronounced gleam and designs that are evenly struck with no area of concentrated softness. While examples seldom appear on the market, the few that have tend to show evidence of careless handling, making this piece among the most appealing seen. To date, only surpassed by two examples in the combined NGC and PCGS population reports, one of which is the finest seen Lissner Collection specimen (NGC-graded MS-62) that brought $36,300 when it was offered in 2014 sale of that collection. Since then, no others of this type have appeared on the market, suggesting that the enthusiasm to acquire this great rarity will again be robust.
