Obverse: St. George on horse rearing right, slaying dragon below with sword; Reverse: Moneta seated right, inspecting coin and leaning upon pillar inscribed "NUMIZMATIKA" (numismatics); mint worker to right, holding hammer. A RARE and artistically superb medal that, considering its elusiveness, must have been given to distinguished attendees or made available to visitors of the exhibition of Grand Duke Mikhailovichs coin and medal collection between 1887 and 1909. While not visible in the plastic holder, the edge of this piece is apparently inscribed 1894, dating its issuance to that year. From what is visible, one can easily determine that the appearance is far nicer than most seen, with variegated russet-amber, mauve, and blue tone atop highly reflective surfaces. Magnified inspection uncovers moderate handling, as is suggested by the grade, yet most remains hidden from the viewer. Considering the overall eye-appeal, a prime opportunity for the collector to not only acquire an incredibly elusive medal, but also one that specifically relates to the numismatic field that we all love.
