1923-D Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. MS-66+ (PCGS). A flashy Gem with golden-tan coloration and traces of original patina throughout. This example offers superior technical quality and strong eye appeal. The 1923-D is the most available mintmarked double eagle from the Roaring Twenties, confirming that many of the 1,702,250 coins struck were used in international transactions, and thus spared from the widespread melting of gold coins during the late 1930s. Even in Mint State, most are found in grades of MS-65 or lower, making this MS-66+ (PCGS) an important find! From the Naples Bay Collection. From the Naples Bay Collection.
