1877 Gold Dollar. MS-65+ (PCGS). A delightful blend of peach and yellow-gold toning adorns this superior Gem. Well struck with prooflike fields and no distracting traces of handling. While 3,900 examples were struck for 1877, only about 325 gold dollars survived the rigors of circulation and mass meltings. At the Gem level, just about 40 pieces remain, making this MS-65+ (PCGS) a significant offering. Only 24 coins have been certified finer by PCGS, and this figure is undoubtedly inflated by several resubmissions.
