1799 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-165, B-8. Rarity-3. AU-53 (PCGS). Well centered in strike with uniformly denticulated borders around both sides, this impressive piece also sports bold to sharp detail throughout the design. The surfaces are attractively original with dominant antique silver toning and blushes of warmer reddish-russet and olive-blue iridescence around the peripheries. Uncommonly smooth in hand for the assigned grade, appreciable luster in a softly frosted texture further enhances already strong eye appeal. This handsome AU is certainly one of the nicer examples of the die variety but missing the Condition Census by a few points, although definitive work in this area has yet to be published. A desirable offering for the variety specialist that may also appeal to the type or date collector due to its strong grade level. BB Die State I-II (intermediate die state).
