1837 Liberty Seated Half Dime. No Stars. Small Date. MS-65 (PCGS). Boldly struck throughout with all the devices sharp on this first year of issue of the new Gobrecht design. The surfaces are splendid too, with no detracting marks. Delicate silver-gray patina on both sides but mostly bright silver in appearance. A few minor die cracks as commonly seen, one to Libertys heal on the right, die crumbling is noted on her leg where it meets the field, and the reverse has a few thin radial cracks, all confirming the depth of the strike and the desire to impart these new designs into the psyche of the American public. Only 25 coins rank finer at PCGS among the 1.4 million struck.
