1940 United States Assay Commission Medal. By John R. Sinnock and Adam Pietz. JK AC-85 a. Rarity-6. Bronze. MS-62 (NGC). 51 mm. Blended golden-brown and light brown patina on the obverse, the reverse exhibits a mix of autumn and olive-brown shades. The latter side is fully Choice in quality, although accuracy compels us to mention several swirls of deeper color on the obverse that are associated with traces of light carbon. This is a rare issue, the mintage just 24 examples achieved by quickly combining existing design elements in a time of rushed production at the Mint. From the Collection of Leonard Augsburger, co-author of The Secret History of the First U.S. Mint.
