1824 Major General Peter B. Porter Medal. By Moritz Furst. Julian MI-18. Bronzed Copper. Original Dies. MS-65 BN (NGC). 65 mm. Choice deep mahogany-brown surfaces offer excellent eye appeal. A minor abrasion is evident at Porters temple, and there are a few trivial flecks on the obverse, but none on the reverse. The dies for this type were finished early in the 1820s, and the gold specimen was struck in December 1824. As with others in this series, the dies were in use for many years to satisfy collector demand for these elegantly designed memorials to the heroes of the War of 1812. Whenever this one was struck, it has been nicely cared for since. Original dies, the reverse with SEP. 17 punched over SEO. 16. From our (Bowers and Merenas) Phillip Flannagan Collection sale, November-December 2001, lot 5349. Lot tag included.
