CHINA. Hunan Soviet. 20 Cash, ND (1931). NGC Genuine. An interesting and SCARCE countermarked issue displaying a hammer and sickle within a 5-pointed star appleid to the obverse of a Hunan provincial 20 Cash. This countermark appears on usually heavily worn Imperial or Republican 10 and 20 Cash issues such as the case with the present survivor. Both the obverse and reverse exhibit light surface porosity as is commonly encountered on examples of this type. Despite its shortcomings an interesting issue sure to add depth to the next collection it enters.
It is claimed that these were once found among bags of Chinese coppers that were being melted by the Japanese during WWII; in total, it is believed that around 100 were found out of 30,000 coins.
