CHINA. Szechuan. Academic Collection of Cut Fractional Cash (16 pieces), ND (ca. 1926). Grades: POOR to VERY FINE.An interesting facet of Chinese numismatics that is not fully appreciated or understood. Several denominations are included such as cut 50 Cash and 100 Cash that have been cut down in a specific manner from Republican 100 Cash and 200 Cash. The latest host coin, Szechuan 200 Cash Year 15 (1926), contained in this academic gathering gives a clearer time period for when these issues were cut and used. When comparing these utilitarian segments the characteristics of the method of manufacture is the same on all of them such as which side the coins were cut from and the alignment of the cuts on each piece. These are not just cut fragments of copper coins to make change, but were actually cut in a very specific manner which can be seen on the various pieces in this lot. Some exhibit minor earthen deposits, verdigris, corrosion and/or may have other defects. Close personal inspection is advised and will reward the diligent bidder. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS.
