1870 Pattern Quarter Dollar. Aluminum, reeded edge. Judd-886. Pollock-985. High Rarity 7. PCGS graded Proof 65. CAC. PQ. Sure looks Proof 66 Cameo. Bright with a mere hint of toning starting to form over the brilliant white surfaces. The obverse is the William Barber Seated Liberty design, with her facing left, right hand holding up a shield with a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY. Her left hand holds an olive branch. Behind her stands a pole surmounted by the cap of freedom held high. The date is below and she is surrounded by 13 stars. For the reverse the regular dies of the quarter were used, it is interesting to note that this highly polished die greatly weakened some areas of the Motto ribbon above the eagle. A rare pattern issue which is seldom offered or seen, with only a few known to exist. Pop 2; 1 finer in 66. <DOTLEADER> Estimated Value $7,000 - UP
