China - Early Imperial. WESTERN LIAO: AE charm (49.29g), pendant charm, crude Chinese inscription or magic Daoist symbols, several casting holes, VF, ex Charles Opitz Collection. Cast during the time of the Western Liao successors to the main Liao during the 12th century, also known as the Qara Khitay or Khara Khitan, established in what is now parts of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, eventually driven out by the Mongols in the early 13th century.
