1788 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 7-M, W-6250. Rarity-4. Period After MASSACHUSETTS. AU Details--Cleaned (PCGS).The obverse is retoning quite nicely in steely golden-copper and medium rose, splashes of which are also present on the reverse. The latter side retains areas of curiously bright reddish-orange color that help to explain the PCGS qualifier, and there are also swirls of dark charcoal here and there along the right border. Both sides are well centered in strike with uncommonly sharp detail remaining for a conditionally challenging die pairing that is seldom offered above the EF grade level. Overall smooth in hand with no marks of note, this coin is sure to catch the eye of astute collectors of Massachusetts state coppers.PCGS# 948. NGC ID: 2B27.
