MACEDON. Macedonian Tribes. Bisaltai. AR Octodrachm (Oktadrachm) (28.88 gms), ca. 480-465 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. cf. SNG ANS-919; cf. BMC-1-2. Obverse: Bridled horse being led to right by male wearing petasos and holding two spears; Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square. An enigmatic and fairly RARE issue, these rather crude, large silver issues are generally attributed to the Bisaltai, a tribe in the Thraco-Macedonian region.
