CELTIC BRITAIN. Trinovantes & Catuvellauni. Sego. AV 1/4 Stater (1.28 gms), ca. A.D. 5-15. EXTREMELY FINE. Van Arsdell-1848-1; S-225 (Tasciovanus); ABC-444. Sego Tascio Tablet (Trinovantian P) type. Obverse: TASCIO in central panel; above and below, wheel flanked by pellets; Reverse: Stylized horse left; pellets-within-annulet above, uncertain ornament to left; pelleted semicircle set on ground line below. An EXTREMELY RARE type, this incredible example--far superior to the plate coins in van Arsdell and ABC--features brilliant surfaces that show very little handling. Some minor porosity and off-centering on the obverse are noted, but do not detract from all that this piece has to offer.
