1864 Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-102a. Rarity-5. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC. Attractive and original toning paints each side of this superior Gem, with peach and violet at the centers and glowing sapphire blues as the rims. Subtle prooflike reflectivity shines forth from the fields and frames more satiny design elements. Expertly produced and ideally preserved. Produced during the Civil War era in which silver coinage was not seen in commerce in the East and Midwest, the 1864 Liberty Seated dime has a paltry circulation strike mintage of 11,000 pieces. Survivors are scarce in all grades, high quality Mint State examples such as this far rarer than survivors of the years 470-piece Proof issue. This piece is among the very finest known to PCGS.
