Obverse: Female standing facing, head left, with hands chained together; to left, another woman kneeling right, holding up lyre; two trumpeters fly above, with facade of Versailles Palace in the background; Reverse: Nude male (representing Belgium) standing facing, head right, holding reversed sword and shield. Pleasing even brown surfaces.<p><em>Though neutral during World War I, Belgium--caught in between the conflicts of the rest of western Europe--broke her neutrality following the war with her participation in the occupation of parts of Germany while reparations were repaid to the allies.</em> From the Richard Jewell Collection.
