Alexandria, Virginia. $10 1902 Red Seal. Fr. 613. Alexandria NB. Charter #7093. PMG Very Fine 20. Serial Number 1. We are excited to have the chance to offer a really special Virginia banknote. Location is so important when establishing the desirability of a national. Alexandria is historic in that it is the birthplace of both George Washington and Robert E Lee. Today it is an important and thriving city inside the Beltway. In fact, Alexandria was once a part of The District of Columbia. As an old town, it is no surprise that Alexandria had one of the countrys earliest national banks. However, it wasnt until late 1903 that The Alexandria National Bank chartered and was issued its first red seals. One of the bank officers clearly saw it fit to save the top note from the first sheet. The darker fold lines on the back suggest that this was a wallet piece. While we always wish number ones could be Uncirculated, that just isnt the case with many new discoveries now being made 100+ years after issuance. But don expect a significant price discount just because this is circulated. Between the crossover appeal to both VA and DC collectors, along with the serial number 1, we are not expecting this to slip through the cracks.
