Springfield, Ohio. Springfield Bank. June 20, 1862. $5. Very Fine. (OH-400 G18b SENC; Wolka 2452-15, Rarity-7G). Engraved and printed by Baldwin, Adams & Co./Bald, Cousland & Co. with "ABC" monogram. We are pretty certain this note is unique and Wendell Wolka is also. It is the plate note in his Ohio opus (on the following page), a fact not noted in the last lot description when initially sold in April 2014 for $1,057.50. A fully issued example from the final series of this bank with a light orange "State Stock Bank of Ohio" back. There are four punch-holes in the signature and the bank apparently redeemed this at their conversion to a National Bank or afterwards. Well style with "Webster and Calhoun in Library" at the lower right, used on Ohio mostly. Lower left frontiersman at stream. Male portrait in the vines of titling in center. Solid, well accomplished with strong registrars signature. The back is a bit light, likely diagnostic to ink used by banknote company. One-of-a-kind with regal Ohio pedigree.
