1861-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Confederate States Issue. WB-11, FS-401. Rarity-3. CSA Die Crack--Shipwreck Effect--(NGC). Ex: S.S. Republic. The "CSA" variety was struck after the Confederate forces seized the New Orleans Mint in April, 1861. The continued to strike half dollars for a short time. These are identified by presence of a tine from the peak of the second 1 in the date, combined with a die crack from the nose past star 7 to the rim. This is an untoned stone-white example with extensive granularity on the surfaces from long term immersion in seawater. Well struck with a few tiny abrasions on each side. UNC Details.
