1870 Liberty Seated Half Dime. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC. Untoned antique silver surfaces combine frosty design elements with semi-reflective fields. The strike is sharp to full in virtually all areas, and the surfaces are as nice as would be expected for the assigned grade. One of the final Philadelphia Mint issues of this denomination. Although available in an absolute sense, the 1870 is always in demand as a type candidate from the Legend Obverse portion of the Liberty Seated half dime series. A quick glance at the certified population data published by PCGS and NGC confirms that survivors are anything but common in the finest Mint State grades. Even at the MS-65 level this issue is scarce, and anything finer is rare. The gorgeous premium Gem offered here is certainly among the most visually impressive survivors, as well as one of the most technically superior, and it is sure to sell for a strong bid.
