1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 6-W, W-6730. Rarity-4. STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils. Fine-12 (PCGS). Dominant golden-brown patina with an intermingling of autumn-brown and flint gray on the obverse, the latter associated with light surface scale around the word FUGIO. The strike is well centered, the sun, its rays and the sundial somewhat soft, but other design elements are fairly bold and the overall design is fully appreciable. Free of all but a few well scattered marks, this is a pleasing Fine example of an intriguing variety that does not share dies with any other known pairing in the Fugio copper series.
