1783 Georgivs Triumpho Token. Musante GW-54, Baker-7, W-10100. VF-35 (PCGS). Pleasing medium brown surfaces with tinges of olive and flint gray evident as the coin rotates under a light. All design elements are bold and fully appreciable despite the fact that the strike is drawn to 9 oclock on the obverse, 8 oclock on the reverse. An ancient carbon deposit in the upper right reverse field is the only mentionable blemish to overall smooth looking surfaces. This design type remains somewhat enigmatic though the fleur-de-lys decorated basket in which Britannia sits is now thought to be that of a hot air balloon, the design perhaps chosen as the first hot air balloon made its ascent in September 1783, the same month in which the Treaty of Paris was signed, making the official end of the Revolutionary War.
