1760 Voce Populi Halfpenny. Nelson-14, W-13960. Rarity-6. P Below Bust. EF-40 (PCGS). 123.8 grains. Warmly and evenly patinated in blended autumn-brown and olive-copper, this is a handsome EF to represent a popular Guide Book variety of the Voce Populi halfpenny. The obverse impression is drawn trivially to 5 oclock, the P clear and all other peripheral design elements bold except for the E in VOCE and the adjacent stop, which are more or less faint. Reverse lightly drawn to 4 oclock with the final digit in the date absent, border through the top of the letters NIA and the following devices. The central design elements on both sides are bold to sharp, the surfaces free of mentionable marks and smooth in hand apart from some microscopic pitting that is easily forgiven. Nelson-14 is one of three die marriages of the P Below Bust variety, the significance of the extra letter unknown.
