1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-30, Salmon 12-G, W-935. Rarity-3. Fine, Reverse Scratches. 64.6 grains. Pleasing silver gray surfaces with no marks of note apart from a couple of light scratches in the center of the reverse. The strike is off center to the upper right obverse, upper left reverse, wear also uneven with those areas either smooth or with soft detail. The definition is noticeably bolder toward the lower left obverse and lower right reverse borders, although the date, denomination and tree in the centers are discernible. Noe-30 is one of the more popular type candidates among Small Planchet Pine Tree shillings, and it also features some of the most simplified die engraving in the series. The tree, in particular, is very basic with little in the way of fine detail, as prepared. This lot includes Colonial American Coin Club Photo Certificate #142796 for this coin signed by Walter Breen and Don Taxay.
