Pennsylvania. 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry. George McAlpin. 5 Cents. Schenkman PA-11b-5Ba (NY-D5Ba). Rarity-8. Brass. Plain Edge. 20 mm. Denomination 6 mm High. EF-40 (NGC). Warm golden-brown patina in the central field areas gives way to slightly lighter antique brassy-gold as ones eye moves toward the borders. Satiny in texture and free of detracting marks, several carbon spots are noted, the most significant on the reverse within the right side of the wreath. This is the first example of the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalrys 5 cent token with the denomination 6 mm high that we have handled in recent years. Both types are elusive, in fact, only a single example of PA-11b-5Bb (5 mm high) having appeared in one of our auctions over the last 10 years (at least).
