Undated Carnegie Corporation Medal. Gold Plated Bronze. 103.0 mm. By Paul Manship. Mint State. Obv: Bellerophon holding the reigns of Pegasus, signed MANSHIP © 1934 at 7 oclock at the rim. Rev: large scroll for inscription over oil lamp, legend PRESENTED BY THE CARNEGIE CORPORATION around. The edge inscribed SAMPLE G. P. at top and bottom. Deep reflective yellow gold finish overall. A large and beautifully designed Art Deco medal, originally copyrighted by Manship in 1934, however we have seen examples of this medal issued well into the 1980s. Motifs in a similar style to his better known works such as "Prometheus" which can be seen at Rockefeller Center in New York. Very scarce and infrequently available in any format. From the Richard Jewell Collection.
