1971 United States Assay Commission Medal. Bronze. 57 mm. By Frank Gasparro. JK AC-115a. Rarity-7. MS-65 (NGC). Warm sandy-gold surfaces reveal more vivid rose highlights under a light. A few trivial spots are noted on the reverse of this attractive, solidly graded Gem.One of the rare modern entries in the Assay Commission medal series, and particularly popular given that the 1971 Commission included among its members such numismatic luminaries as Herbert M. Bergen, Byron Johnson and Al C. Overton. This lot includes the original presentation case and box for the medal, both of which are in Extremely Fine to As New condition, the box with a minor tear and other signs of light handling along the edge of the lid. A typed note within the case states that this particular medal was originally presented to Commission member Bernice F. Stevenson of St. Louis, Missouri. (Total: 1 medal; 1 case; 1 box) From the Richard Jewell Collection.
