A scarce and popular type depicting Confederate President Jefferson Davis hanging from a gallows. Reverse with inscription DEATH / TO / TRAITORS -- the middle line, usually weakly struck, is sharp on this specimen. Richly toned golden-brown surfaces with glints of olive to the obverse, mottled rose-russet highlights on the reverse. Numerous scratches are evident on the latter side.
