1889 Inaugural Centennial Medal. Cast Bronze. 113 mm. By Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Philip Martiny. Musante GW-1135, Baker 671, Douglas-53. Mint State. Handsome golden-bronze surfaces are exceptionally well preserved for the type with no notable blemishes apart from a couple of shallow scuffs near 10 oclock on the obverse border. Boldly rendered with all design elements crisp. A classic Washington medal of the late 19th century and essential for serious collections of Washington medals or works by Saint-Gaudens, but fortunately offered frequently enough that most people who want to will have the chance to own one. This is a above average example, nearly Choice, and worthy of serious consideration. From the Richard Jewell Collection.
