1889 Inaugural Centennial Medal. Cast Bronze. 115.2 mm. By Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Philip Martiny. Musante GW-1135, Baker-671, Douglas-53. Mint State. Uniform medium chocolate brown finish, the finely granular surfaces are smooth and even, giving the piece a gently satiny appearance when turned in the light. A very pleasing medal with little evidence of handling. This classic Washington medal of the late 19th century is essential for any serious collections of Washington medals or works by Saint-Gaudens.
