1857年6月15日经马赛寄美国纽约早期邮封(简), 有墨水手写 "18" 邮费, 上盖 9月14日纽约自戳, 另有点色手盖 "39" 印记, 开封处盖黑色7月9日香港中转戳, 及旁有橙红色伦敦8月29日中转戳, 另一边手写有英文 " 1857年6月15日福州府" 字样. 信封有老化痕迹及小污染. 这是由奥斯卡·杨格 (Oscar Young)致母亲的一封信, 内容详细介绍了当地贸易,包括:“...这次船长准备离开香港进行战斗准备, 枪支装满了……担心我们应该受到海盗的袭击, 因为我们有非常有价值的货物…… 50 箱鸦片…… 50 箱钱中的最好部分…… 以墨西哥银製成…… 天花在这裡肆虐, 其中很大部分是中国人感染, 我们可以通过每天浮在海上的无头尸体, 可知每周有成千上万的人死亡, ” 并继续进行进一步的详细调查. 这是一封寄美国的罕见早期信件. 保存尚佳.Foochow British Consular Post 1857 (15 June) entire letter to New York with handstruck "<H>via marseilles " in red with manuscript "<I>18" rate mark in ink overstruck by New York American Packet c.d.s. (14.9) plus handstruck "39" and on the flap, which opens well for display, Hong Kong type 9 c.d.s. (9.7) and London (29.8) c.d.s. in red along with manuscript "<I>Foo Chow Foo June 15 1857" . There are a few trivial age marks. A good letter from Oscar Young to his mother, giving details of local trade including, "<I>... the preparations for fight the captain made coming out of Hong Kong this time, the guns and swivels loaded ... made for fear we should have an attack from the pirates as we had a very valuable cargo in ... 50 boxes of opium ... the best part of 50 boxes of money ... in Mexican dollars silver... The Small Pox is raging here amongst the Chinaman to a very great extent and there are thousands dying weekly as we can tell by the dead bodies floating past us daily with their heads cut off ..." and continues with further gory details.
