JAPAN. Oban, ND (1860-62). Manen. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield.112.15 gms. KM-C-24a.2; JNDA-9-11. Mintage: estimated 9-10 thousand produced for the machine hammered type with security edge. Another well preserved and carefully handled example of a large format Japanese gold coin. Signs of ink loss are noted with nice original surfaces that display beautiful rich orange peel peripheral tone complemented by flaxen-blue iridescent hues. As the patina extends into the central areas of the obverse, the color transitions to fire yellow with honey-gold tone on the high points. An eye catching survivor with much visual appeal sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
