ITALY. Papal States. Scudo dOro, ND (1534-49). Rome Mint. Paul III. NGC MS-62.3.38 gms. Fr-65; Berman-904; Munt-19. Obverse: Papal coat-of-arms; Reverse: St. Paul standing slightly left, holding Gospels and reversed sword. A rather lustrous and brilliant example, this type features different poses of St. Paul, with the sword being reversed or over his shoulder. These varieties are covered under the same catalog number in Friedberg. A few light marks are noted, but otherwise a wholly pleasing specimen.
