FRANCE. Ecu, 1690-(9). Rennes Mint. Louis XIV. NGC MS-63.Dav-3811; KM-275.21; Gad-216. An "ecu aux 8 L" from the first reformation of 1690 to 1693, this date is notable for having an upside-down mintmark ("6" vs. "9"). Struck from eroded dies, this piece is quite the anomaly in terms of preservation however, with sparkling luster over nearly brilliant surfaces and strong detail within the designs. Only the slightest traces of undertype are visible, undeniably making this a world-class survivor.
