1860 Idlers Washington / Cogans 1860 die muling. Musante GW-269, Baker-208M. Brass. Reeded edge. MS-65 (PCGS).20.6 mm. Golden olive with soft violet on the obverse while the reverse is heavily mottled blue, violet and olive. Nicely reflective fields, sharp and satiny devices, and very nice eye appeal overall. Some very faint oxidation is noted on the high points of the portrait. Only a single example of this medalet appears in our archives, a copper example we sold in 2016. This is struck from the same reverse that was used on the very rare Mt. Holly Paper Company tokens, GW-271. This seems to be the earlier use, however, as the die appears fresher and there is what appears to be a very thin rim break visible on the Mt. Holly specimen in the next lot.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
