Circa 1819 Series Numismatica medal by Vivier. WASHINGTON. Musante GW-98, Baker-132. Bronze. SP-65 (PCGS).41.0 mm. 574.3 grains. Deep chocolate brown with nuances of mahogany and deep olive. Traces of gold and blue toning are seen close to the letters of the reverse legend. Lustrous on the reliefs and nicely reflective in the fields with little handling evidence. Just a trace of friction is noted on the highest point of the portrait relief. A lovely example of this early entry into the expansive Series Numismatica, medals that celebrated over 150 famous persons. As a group, they are generally considered common, but this attractive Washington portrait piece is among the most desired in the entire series. This is from the original circa 1819 series.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
