1875-S Trade Dollar. Type I/II. MS-65 (ICG).Mottled toning in steel gray, cobalt blue, pinkish-rose and golden-apricot encircles the peripheries and frames small circular areas of brilliance in the centers. The luster is full and frosty, the surfaces pleasingly smooth in hand. With 4,487,000 circulation strikes produced -- one of the highest mintages in its series -- the 1875-S is a perennially popular trade dollar for type purposes. Gems are scarce, however, and the present example is of further significance for representing the scarce Type I/II hub combination of the issue.
