1786 New Jersey copper. Maris 21-O. Rarity-5. Wide Shield. EF-40 (PCGS).151.5 grains. Light and medium brown, attractively woodgrained with dark peripheries on the obverse, a bit brassy on the reverse. A good looking piece, mostly smooth and pleasing, though there is a trivial rough area under the plow handles and a few pits on the reverse: above E and PL of E PLURIBUS, and below R and U of the same word. Nicely centered and detailed. The census of this variety included two Uncirculateds (one Gem), two AUs, and three EFs. This is in the next tier, making it perfect for most collectors. From the E Pluribus Unum Collection of New Jersey Coppers.
